Why Architecture Drawings Fail

(and How to Fix Them)

We’ve all seen them… Architecture drawings that look AMAZING… but don’t actually communicate, just baffle us.

This week, I shared a new video on how architects bring clarity to their drawings using a simple but powerful tool: hierarchy.

Here I walk you through how I use just three line thicknesses — thick, medium, and thin — to make sure every plan, section, or elevation can actually communicate.s.

Further Reading

(Which I highly recommend)

Perfect Scale

2015, Ansgar Schulz and Benedikt Schultz, published by DETAIL.

I love this collection of books by DETAIL. they offer straight to the point information in a highly visually appealing manner.

Design Drawing

2010, Francis D.K. Ching, published by John Wiley & sons inc.

The drawings you see in Francis D.K. Ching’s books are nothing short of marvelous. Its just visually inspiring and highly didactic.

It is amore complete book as it covers overall drawing.

You may also want to check ISO 128-1 & 2 as someone has kindly pointed out in one of the comments of the video.

Basic Principles

SHORTS of the week!

Only one short this week and it is an “abstract” of what the long video format is all about.

Coming up!

Next video will be about rendering with D5 Render. We’ve been talking and we have decided to do a collaboration together!

I’m very excited and I’m still trying to see if I can offer some discounts on their software to my subscribers (that would be you!).

For now you can find a free try version in the link.

Nearing 2.000 subscribers!

Our community is still small but growing strongly!

Frankly it is very rewarding, but almost as much as intimidating!

Thank you for being part of this — every watch, like, and comment keeps me going!

Share the newsletter to spread the goodies and keep it growing

If you’re working on a project where you think I could provide you some input, please do not hesitate to book a meeting with me. I try and keep a few slots open a week, but the idea is for these meetings to be very intensive.

As always, thank you all for your support,
