Best Architecture Publication!

For a long time I wanted to make a tribute video for โEl Croquisโ Magazine and now with World Book Day (April 23rd) I found my perfect excuse!
I absolutely love books in general, and architecture books in particular, but these ones goes well beyond my general feeling. They have been a part of my professional development since my early years and I simply canโt imagine my life without these books in it.
This physical medium has been on a steady decline with the rise of social media. Nevertheless, going through an El croquis publication is always worth the investment. Whether in steep economic resources or the time spent to visit the library, because the wealth of knowledge you get is simply unmatched.
Going through one monograph can give you more than a glimpse into some of the greatest minds that are leading the architecture field.

Sustainable Design Books
(Which I highly recommend)

Introduction to Architectural Science
2008, Steven Szokolay, Published by Elsevier.
This book is not an easy read, but it covers all the fundamentals in quite some depth so I think it is the foundational book for sustainable design.
However, like the author himself points it out, it is not your regular book with fancy architectural imagesโฆ

Solar Energy and Housing Design
1994, Simos Yanna, Published by the Architectural Association.
Written by a former professor of mine this book is more basic than the previous one but remains highly informative. It would also be a good place to start which would be halfway from the hardcore science of the previously mentioned book.

Daylight Design of Buildings
2002, Nick Baker & Koen Steemers, Published by Routledge.
This is a beautiful book which covers all th basics of a subject which has always fascinated architects. It goes well beyond the mere perceptions to go into the physical aspects of daylight giving insights into how to manipulate it expertly.

Energy Manual
2008, Hegger et al., By Birkhauser editorial.
This was probably the first book I bought related exclusively to sustainability. The best part about this book is how the information is displayed. The graphs and diagrams are simply invaluable and one can tell a lot of imagination and creativity went into making these. You even get a number of architectural details!
SHORTS of the week!

Book a meeting
If youโre working on a project where you think I could provide you some input, please do not hesitate to book a meeting with me. I try and keep a few slots open a week, but the idea is for these meetings to be very intensive.
As always, thank you all for your support,

M.Arch. Pedro Augspach
